Day 1 in Xi'an China (08-Mar-14)

For a change,we have something new: having my fat bf as the guest blogger today =D

All along, fat bf loves to visit China for their culturally rich history and especially loves buying books on Chinese Dynasty and study extensively
Being the city girl myself, I prefer to travel other places =P

Hence, finally, fat bf  found his travel mate, Jon to unravel this exciting Xi'an travel.

 Enjoyz =D

Well, for a start, it’s a 7 days trip to Xi'an with my buddy,Jon.
One of the reasons why I choose Xi'an is because of its’ history.
Xi'an has been an ancient capital of 13 dynasty in Chinese history.
Tang ,Qin and Han dynasty have chosen Xi'an to be the capital during these period of Chinese history.

For a start, it’s my 1st trip to China so I have no idea on what to expect.

What I do know that it’s going to be cold there as the temperature will be 6 °C in the day and drop to negative at night. (woohoo!!!!)

We took  China Eastern flight to KunMing afterwhich, we were transferred to an internal flight to Kunming.
There is nothing to shout about for our flight quality. In fact, it’s more like a budget flight rather than a full fledge international flight =P

The aircraft touched down at KunMing airport at about 6am. Kun ming temperature was around 4 degree.. woooh!! Colldddd!!
After rushing through the custom etc, we were then herded to another aircraft for the flight towards Xi'an
.
Upon exiting from Xi'an airport, we were surprised that they don’t sell any prepaid card in the vicinity.
(This was repeated throughout the trip whereby we tried to buy but to no avail.)

At the airport bus terminal, we bought the bus ticket to Xi'an at RMB6/pax

View from the tour bus. (Xiang yang international airport)

Toll station (shaped like city wall)

The bus ride to the city took about 1½ hours so do enjoy the view.

Along the way, we do notice some industrial complex spewing out thick plume of smoke.

Guess that it’s a sign that the air quality might be pretty bad. Upon alighting from the tourist bus, we were greeted by 2 representatives from the tourist department.
We tried to get direction from them and they gave some pretty generic direction such as turn right after going straight etc..
After following their direction, we found ourselves lost in the city for the next 3 hours

After reaching the hotel, we went out for lunch and had noodles at a small roadside stall next to the hotel and boy is it good!! We decide to order哨子面 and boy is it gooodd!!  The portion is hugeee!! The bowl which the noodles being served in is so large that you can burry your face in it!! J

After lunch, we went back to hotel to have a nap before heading out for dinner. Our aim is to locate the Muslim quarters where we plan to gorge ourselves on the street food.  When we woke up at about 7pm at night. We decide to head towards the small alley at the opposite side of the hotel. After walking for 15 minutes, we found a restaurant selling羊肉膜 (马洪小炒泡馍).
is a staple food for folks living in Xi'an. You can have it in the morning, noon and night as there are multiple ways of preparing the food.

The legendary 羊肉膜.

Preserve vege and mixed peanut    (烩菜)

Love this preserved garlic.

                                                                                                                                                                Overall  Review of above meal:

  •      羊肉膜 taste very much like the kambing soup which is being sold in Singapore. Except this version is very much oily then the ones which they sold in Singapore. We couldn't finish this dish at all!!
  •       Garlic is damm good. A must have when eating any food in this restaurant
  •      Mixed vege is also well made as they are very crunchy. Yummy.
In all, I would give it 3.5 stars as we find that the羊肉膜 is too oily for our liking.
The plus side in this restaurant is that the mutton is not too over powering.

Below are the pics are some street food pics and pics that we came across whiloe we walked around our hotel vicinity

柿子饼.. made from persimmon, flour and sugar. After which, the mixture is being pan fried..
End result, rather crispy and almost melt in your mouth.
Feel that it is too  sweet for a guy liking.

Little did we know that we will be going to this area pretty often for the next few days.

Happen to come across this gigantic Skating rink =D

A Collage for Day 1

That's the end of our Day 1 trip in Xi'an, China =D

Stay Tune for more =D
