Day 3 of Rome
Oh well, one of the most tiring days of the whole Europe trip!
That's because we chose to WALK instead of taking buses. Well, host said its walk-able.
But its a freaking long & tiresome walk =P
We craved for the nice coffee and bread we had for our breakfast the previous day.
(Remember we packed it so we can eat while we queued for the Vatican Museum?)
What our host advised does makes every sense. She commented very proudly that Italy has the best cafe and bread that we can find in every corner of each places hence there is no need for any Starbucks.
I agree totally =D
I really love their coffee that I can drink 3 cups a day and that's no joke =P
Our favourite breakfast cafe. Bread going at around $1 Euro =D
Its really very nice. |
I still miss my bread with lemon cream !!
Warm & Fluffy=P
Yums |
My Cafe latte!!
Love its presentation too!! |
Ha-ha, every time I flipped through my album & see this architectural site. I will want to burst out laughing,
The two of us can be quite funny..
That's because we thought we had reached the Colosseum
So the very excited me ran to the Tourist Office and ask for the map of the Colosseum.
Do I then know from its staff that this is not the Colosseum but the Sant' Angelo (in her very strong Italian accent) that I had to reply in my very singlish.. "huh" unwittingly =P
So the lady grabbed me a map & showed me.
Castel Sant'Angelo.. and Colosseum is at the very end of the map =P I was so embarrassed and thank the lady for her kind guidance before I went out telling Peng the funny encounter I had in the office=P We both lol =P
Here's the picture of Castel Sant'Angelo =P
Castel Sant'Angelo was initially commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family. The building was later used by the popes as a fortress and castle, and is now a museum. The Castel was once the tallest building in Rome. |
More shots of the Castle =P An unexpected part of the itinerary
We are glad that at least we were there=P |
| More photo-taking sessions before we went in for the castle tour=P |
Again, I really love the background the we took with
Everything just looks so nice & scenic. |
| The excited me with the admission ticket to the Castel Sant'Angelo =D |
| Before we start the castle tour.. so nice even in this little bit of the castle |
| Here starts our touring=P |
| The famous bridge: Ponte Sant'Angelo Ponte ElioElio from the name of the Emperor Hadrian who built it in 136 AD to connect the city entrance of his mausoleum: the current Castel Sant'Angelo. The appearance of the bridge, now commonly called Sant'Angelo for the statue of the Archangel above the castle has undergone various transformations were abbattui its towers were added and two statues of St. Peter and St. Paolo.Nel 1668 was enriched further of ten statues of angels bearing the symbols of the Passion. Bernini was appointed by Pope Clement IX, drew up their figures, while running to his students. |
| Interior of The Castle |
Looks as though this is digital imaging.
But this is not a fake backdrop=P |
| Love this St. Peter Basilica in the background =D |
Our Lunch at Chicken Hut: Chicken Caesar salad
Abit like our KFC |
| 7-Up |
Chicken Burger..Our verdict: Fast food not nice in Italy.
Slow food tastes so much better=P |
| Purpose in taking this al fresco dining.. looks very dreamy as if its a scene from the movie=P |
Next stop after our lunch:
The Pantheon: One of the best preserved of all Roman buildings |
Just look at Peng's facial expression.. starting to get lethargic and there I was already
complaining about the long walk already=P |
Looking at the tourist crowd and being too tired, I was too lazy & tired to pose for a picture.
Hence, took all pictures for Peng =D |
| Yeah, finally.. a break for the coffee. In need of caffeine =P |
| People-watching while enjoying our coffee before our next stop to Trevi fountain |
| See the little images here? |
Yeah.. Trevi fountain.,. Actually there are steps to toss a coin to make a wish. A traditional legend holds that if visitors throw a coin into the fountain, they are ensured a return to Rome.Coins are purportedly meant to be thrown using the right hand over the left shoulder. |
| Last picture of Trevi Fountain before we set off to our last destination: The Colosseum |
| Snap Snap on our way!! Need to get attention off the long walk |
Ice cream yeah.. mine is a Fragola gelato ice cream. Love the velvet red colour.
Seeing it alone makes me happier!
| Peng & her strawberry yogurt ice cream |
| Have to google for this nice architectural building =P |
| Yeah.. Roman Forum and that means a step much closer to The Colosseum |
Finally reached and having to walk such a long way.
Taking us around 5 hours on foot from Castel Sant'Angelo..
That's because we missed some turns and took wrong direction =P |
| My favourite pose at the Colosseum |
A pity that we can't make it in time to tour the Colosseum.
Hence, just a tour around the exterior of Colosseum & that makes the regret in my trip =x |
The Moscato that we bought on our 1st night =D
Perfect combination: Pizza with Moscato =D |
The pizza we bought around the host's house.
This is one of the recommended pizza that she recommended. Thicker version of pizza |
Ham & Cheese Pizza
What's interesting is you can ask the chef to slice it to your preferred size and each serving=2 slices =P |
| Hence, we swooped so that we can both taste ham & cheese and the Vegetable pizza |
Ending post with our sinful and simple dinner for the day=P
